Adding a Second Remote
The same procedure adds a second, third, or additional remote. Each LEARN button press opens one pairing window for one new transmitter. To add two remotes, complete the full sequence twice: press LEARN, pair the first remote, then press LEARN again and pair the second.
Each new remote consumes one slot in the operator’s memory. If the memory is full, the operator will not accept additional pairings; clear the list first (see the section below), then re-pair all devices.
Pairing to an Older Fixed-Code Operator
Older LiftMaster gate operators with a green or red LEARN button use fixed-code receivers. The pairing process is similar but the receiver stores a fixed code rather than a rolling authorization:
- Press and release the LEARN button once.
- Press the remote button until the operator’s indicator LED blinks or the gate clicks.
Replacement remotes for fixed-code operators must match the original transmitter’s frequency and DIP-switch settings, or they must be re-coded to match the receiver. Troubleshooting: Gate Blinks but Does Not Open

Power and mechanical state. A motor that hums without movement points to a mechanical bind or seized actuator rather than a pairing problem. The remote is doing its job; the gate mechanism is not.

Clearing Old Remote Codes
To remove access for a lost remote, or to free space in a full memory, press and hold the LEARN button for approximately six seconds until the indicator LED turns off. All stored codes clear — remotes, keypads, and any HomeLink training all disappear from that point.
Re-pair every device after clearing. If the gate uses keypads, re-entering PINs is part of that process.
Partial removal — removing one specific remote without touching the others — is not available on most residential LiftMaster gate operators. The choice is keep-all or clear-all. On newer operators with myQ integration, app-connected devices can sometimes be individually de-authorized through the app, but this does not apply to RF remote codes.
