What is the Nedap uPASS?
The uPASS is a fixed UHF reader that mounts at the gate entrance. It broadcasts a radio field in the 860–960 MHz range. When a car with a matching windshield tag enters that field, the reader picks up the tag’s credential number, passes it to an access controller, and the controller tells the gate operator to open.
The windshield tag is a passive UHF sticker — no battery, thin enough to be close to invisible. It draws power from the reader’s radio field. Because there’s no battery, it’s maintenance-free. The trade-off is range.
